Understand what's causing the difficulty. Know what to do next.
When you or your child is struggling with reading, writing, spelling, memory or other areas of learning, knowing where to turn can be difficult.
You may already suspect dyslexia. You may have been told there is nothing to worry about but still feel something isn't quite right. Or you may simply want to understand why certain things seem much harder than they should.
Dyslexia West Midlands provides specialist assessments, practical advice and support for children, adults, parents, schools, colleges and universities.
You don't need to know which assessment or service you need before contacting us. Tell us what's happening and we'll help you understand the most appropriate next step.
Worried about your child's learning?
Perhaps your child is struggling to read fluently, spell simple words, organise their writing or remember instructions. They may be falling behind at school, taking much longer to complete their work or becoming increasingly anxious about learning.
Sometimes these difficulties are related to dyslexia. Sometimes there may be another explanation.
We can help you understand what may be happening and what support could make a difference.
Looking for answers as an adult?
Many adults come to us having wondered for years whether they might be dyslexic.
You may have developed ways of coping but still struggle with reading quickly, spelling, writing emails, spotting mistakes or putting your thoughts into writing. These difficulties can affect confidence at work, in education and in everyday life.
A dyslexia assessment can provide answers, identify your individual strengths and difficulties, and recommend practical strategies and adjustments.
Need specialist support for your school?
We work with primary and secondary schools, further education and higher education providers across the Midlands.
Our specialist team can provide dyslexia and learning assessments, screening, SENDCo support, staff training, classroom strategies, consultancy, exam access arrangement work and parent meetings.
Rather than requiring schools to buy fixed packages, we discuss what you actually need and provide support accordingly.
Professional Dyslexia Assessments for Children and Adults
A dyslexia assessment isn't simply about receiving a diagnosis.
A detailed assessment can help identify an individual's strengths and difficulties and explain why they may be struggling in particular areas. The resulting report provides practical recommendations that can be shared with schools, universities and employers where appropriate.
Depending on age and circumstances, assessments can be undertaken by our specialist dyslexia teachers, educational psychologists or consulting psychologists.
Not sure whether a full dyslexia assessment is right for your child?
Sometimes parents know their child is struggling but don't yet know why.
Our Learning Assessments are designed to establish a child's current strengths and difficulties across areas including reading, comprehension, spelling, writing, phonological skills, memory and language.
They do not provide a dyslexia diagnosis, but can identify significant dyslexic traits and provide useful baseline scores and detailed recommendations for parents and schools.
Dyslexia, dyscalculia and dysgraphia assessments
Our educational psychologist assessments can explore dyslexia alongside dyscalculia and dysgraphia, helping to build a broader understanding of an individual's learning profile.
The assessment considers areas including reading, spelling, phonological processing, memory, verbal and visual abilities, writing and maths, with a detailed report and practical recommendations afterwards.
Specialist Dyslexia Tuition for Children
Children don't need a dyslexia diagnosis to benefit from specialist tuition.
Our face-to-face tuition begins with a baseline assessment so that teaching can focus on the areas where each child is struggling.
Lessons use a structured multisensory approach and can cover reading, spelling, writing, memory and confidence.

What can Dyslexia West Midlands help with?
More than 10 years helping children and adults
Dyslexia West Midlands was established after founder Suzanne recognised that children and adults across the Midlands needed greater access to specialist dyslexia support.
Today, we have a team of 13 specialist teachers and educational psychologist assessors and have helped thousands of children and adults through assessment and tuition.
Our assessors combine professional expertise with an understanding that people can arrive feeling worried, frustrated or uncertain. We believe the way an assessment is conducted matters just as much as the quality of the report that follows.
Specialist knowledge. A caring approach.
Our specialist assessors hold relevant professional qualifications and maintain current professional development. Our assessment team includes APC-qualified assessors, specialist dyslexia teachers and educational psychologists, and all team members have DBS checks in place.
But qualifications are only part of what matters.
Parents frequently value the personal way we work with their children, while adults often tell us that finally understanding the reasons behind lifelong difficulties has helped them see themselves and their abilities differently.
Not sure what you need?
You don't need to choose an assessment before speaking to us.
Tell us about the difficulties you, your child or your pupils are experiencing and we'll help you understand the options.
