Worried about your child's learning? Start by understanding what's happening.
It can be difficult to know what to do when your child is struggling at school.
You may have noticed difficulties with reading, spelling or writing. Perhaps they struggle to remember instructions, take much longer than expected to complete work or are finding maths particularly difficult.
For some children, difficulties at school begin to affect their confidence, cause anxiety or even make them reluctant to go to school.
You may suspect dyslexia, but you don't need to know the answer before contacting us.
Is your child struggling at school?
Parents regularly contact us because their child is experiencing difficulties such as:
- weak reading or slow reading
- persistent spelling difficulties
- difficulty getting thoughts onto paper
- weak writing skills
- difficulty remembering several things at once
- slow processing
- difficulties with maths
- problems maintaining attention and concentration
- anxiety around school or learning
- falling behind despite working hard.
Parents also frequently ask whether letters or words appearing to move, difficulty finishing exams, family history of dyslexia or persistent difficulty spelling simple words could indicate dyslexia.
These experiences can be associated with dyslexia, but experiencing one or more of them doesn't automatically mean that a child is dyslexic.
The important first step is understanding what is happening.
Finding the right support for your child
Learning Assessments
If you know your child is struggling but aren't sure why, a Learning Assessment can provide useful baseline information across areas including reading, comprehension, spelling, writing, phonological skills, memory and language.
It doesn't provide a diagnosis of dyslexia, but it can identify significant dyslexic traits and help parents and schools understand where support should be focused.
Dyslexia Assessments
A full diagnostic assessment explores a wider range of skills and can determine whether your child's profile is consistent with dyslexia.
You'll receive detailed feedback and a written report explaining the results alongside practical recommendations for supporting your child.
Specialist Dyslexia Tuition
If your child needs ongoing help, our specialist dyslexia teachers provide structured, multisensory tuition based around their individual difficulties.
A diagnosis isn't required before starting tuition.
